Your Gujarati translator
Your translation is made by a translator sworn by a German court, usually a Landgericht (regional court) or Oberlandesgericht (higher regional court). The translator reads Gujarati script, transliterates every name into Latin letters and confirms with stamp and signature that the German text is complete and correct. A translator in India cannot certify a translation for German authorities.
Gujarati names: "-bhai", "-ben" and the surname-first form
Gujarati names often have three parts: your own name, your father's first name, then the surname. In કિરણ મહેશ પટેલ (Kiran Mahesh Patel), Mahesh is the father's name. Gujarati documents also add respectful endings. A father may be written મહેશભાઈ (Maheshbhai) and a mother નીતાબેન (Nitaben).
Many Gujarat school certificates and forms put the surname first and add the ending to the father's name: "Patel Kiran Maheshbhai". Your passport may or may not include "-bhai". It usually shows the given name first and the surname in its own field.
For a German office, this can look like three different people. A sworn translation solves it without changing your document:
- 1The translator keeps the order of the document. A surname-first form stays surname-first.
- 2Endings like "-bhai" and "-ben" are part of the written name. They are kept, not removed.
- 3The Gujarati script is transliterated letter by letter. No name part is added or dropped.
- 4Your passport spelling is added in a translator's note, so the office can match both forms.
| On your document | In your passport | In our translation |
|---|---|---|
| પટેલ કિરણ મહેશભાઈ (school certificate) | Given name: KIRAN MAHESH · Surname: PATEL | Patel Kiran Maheshbhai (translator's note: passport name KIRAN MAHESH PATEL) |
| મહેશભાઈ (father's name) | Father's name on the last page: MAHESH PATEL | Maheshbhai (translator's note: passport spelling MAHESH PATEL) |
| નીતાબેન (mother's name) | Mother's name on the last page: NITA | Nitaben (translator's note: passport spelling NITA) |
Your Indian passport lists your father's, mother's and spouse's names on the last page. Please upload that page too. If your office still sees a conflict, it may ask for a name affidavit. That is the office's decision.
Gujarati documents from Gujarat
Gujarati documents have their own layouts. Common sources:
- Birth certificates from municipal corporations such as Ahmedabad, Surat or Vadodara, and from gram panchayats. Many are printed forms with Gujarati entries and stamps. See Gujarat birth certificate.
- SSC and HSC mark sheets from the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB), and university degrees. A GSEB mark sheet may have English subject names but Gujarati headings. See GSEB mark sheets and university degrees.
- Marriage registration certificates from the local marriage registrar, often in Gujarati. See marriage certificate translation.
We translate every word on the page into German, in both languages, including stamps and handwritten notes. Driving licences from Gujarat are mostly in English, so they usually need an English to German translation. Read more about the Indian driving licence as a document. For papers from Maharashtra, see Marathi to German translation.
Why do people in Germany need a Gujarati translation?
The translation is usually one step in a bigger process. Each process has its own page:
- converting your licence to a German one (Führerschein umschreiben) — the Führerscheinstelle needs a German translation of your licence.
- degree recognition (Anerkennung) — GSEB and university papers with Gujarati parts may need translation.
- German citizenship application (Einbürgerung) — the office checks your birth and family records.
- marriage at a German Standesamt (Anmeldung zur Eheschließung) — birth and status papers must be in German.
An Indian apostille is not valid in Germany. If your office needs to check an Indian document, it asks the German Embassy in India for a verification. You cannot start this yourself. Read our document verification guide.

Frequently asked questions about Gujarati to German translation
Is there a sworn Gujarati translator in Germany?
Yes. There are translators sworn by German courts for Gujarati, but not many. We work with a partner translator sworn by a German court and confirm the date before you pay.
I searched for "Übersetzer Gujarati Deutsch beglaubigt". Is that the same service?
Yes. The phrase means a sworn translation (beglaubigte Übersetzung) from Gujarati into German, made by a translator sworn by a German court. That is the service on this page.
Will "Maheshbhai" be written as Mahesh in my translation?
No. A sworn translation keeps "Maheshbhai" exactly as written. If your passport shows "Mahesh", the translator adds that spelling in a translator's note.
Can my GSEB mark sheet be translated to German?
Yes. We translate the full mark sheet, including subjects, marks, grades, remarks and stamps. Grades are translated as printed; offices convert them themselves.
How much does a Gujarati to German translation cost?
Prices start from €49 per document. You see the fixed price for your document before you pay. Longer documents are priced per page.
My school certificate puts my surname first. Is that a problem?
The translation keeps the surname-first order of your certificate. Your passport name is added in a translator's note, so the office can see it is the same person.
Will the German office accept my translation?
A sworn translation is valid throughout Germany. The office makes the final decision, so we cannot guarantee a decision.
