Police Clearance Certificate Translation into German

Last updated: 2 October 2026

A German office has asked for a criminal record certificate from your home country. In German it is called a Strafregisterauszug or Führungszeugnis aus dem Heimatland. It may be a Turkish Adli Sicil Kaydı, a Ukrainian or Russian certificate of no criminal record, a Syrian or Iraqi certificate or an Indian police clearance certificate (PCC). It must be in German and should not get too old while you wait. We deliver a sworn translation (beglaubigte Übersetzung).

  • Criminal record and police clearance certificates from Turkey, Ukraine, Russia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, India and more
  • Reference numbers, passport numbers and the exact clearance sentence translated word for word
  • Express option, because many offices want a recent certificate
  • PDF in 3 working days, signed original posted to your German address (usually 1–3 working days)

How do I get my police clearance certificate translated for Germany?

Upload a clear scan of your certificate, front and back, with any apostille. A translator sworn by a German court translates it into German, then signs and stamps it. You get a PDF first. The signed paper original follows by post. Order soon after you receive the certificate, because offices often want a recent one. Read how it works.

Which certificate do you have? Documents by country

Each country has its own criminal record system and its own wording. These are the certificates we translate most often:

Country Typical document (local name) What to know
Turkey Adli Sicil Kaydı (criminal record), often from e-Devlet Barcode and verification note translated. Apostille applies.
Ukraine Довідка про несудимість (certificate of no criminal record) Apostille issued by Ukrainian authorities.
Russia Справка о несудимости, issued by the MVD Apostille from the Russian authorities.
Syria Criminal record certificate (Arabic) Arabic text and stamps in full. The office decides on legalisation.
Iraq Criminal record or police certificate (Arabic, sometimes Kurdish) Legalisation is suspended; the office decides at its discretion.
Afghanistan Police certificate (Dari or Pashto) Legalisation is not possible; the office decides at its discretion.
India PCC from a Passport Seva Kendra, the Embassy of India in Berlin, a consulate or state police Usually English, sometimes with Hindi stamps. Indian apostilles are not valid in Germany.

Good to know: Most certificates are one page. Still, send the back if it has stamps, an apostille or notes.

Which German offices ask for a foreign police certificate?

It depends on your procedure, and the office decides. Common cases are Approbation (licence to practise as a doctor) and the recognition of nursing qualifications. For example, Bremen and Hessen ask nurses for a criminal record certificate from their home country. The Approbation office in Schwerin asks doctors for a "Strafregisterauszug oder Führungszeugnis" from their home country. Offices in other procedures may also ask for one. Always follow the list your office gives you.

How old can my police certificate be for a German office?

The German office decides the time limit. Many offices want a recent certificate, often under 3–6 months old. For example, the Schwerin Approbation office says it may be at most 3 months old when you apply. Check your letter. If your certificate is too old, you need a new certificate and a new translation.

Getting a certificate while you live in Germany

How you apply depends on your country. Many Turkish documents, including the Adli Sicil Kaydı, are downloaded from e-Devlet. According to the Embassy of India in Berlin, Indians apply on the Passport Seva portal and then submit their papers at an appointment; the embassy says processing takes about 7 working days. For other countries, ask your country's mission or the issuing authority. We do not apply for you.

How we write names in your translation

A translator sworn by a German court keeps every name as it is on your certificate. We do not expand initials or add names. Names in Cyrillic, Arabic or Indian scripts are transliterated (written in Latin letters). A different passport spelling goes in a translator's note.

On your document In your passport In our translation
Андрей Волков (Russian certificate) ANDREI VOLKOV Andrej Volkov (translator's note: passport spelling ANDREI VOLKOV)
عمر الجبوري (Iraqi certificate) OMAR ALJBOORI Omar Al-Jubouri (translator's note: passport spelling OMAR ALJBOORI)
K. Srinivas (Indian state police certificate) SRINIVAS KONDA K. Srinivas (translator's note: passport spelling SRINIVAS KONDA)

Common problems with police certificates, and how we handle them

  1. 1The certificate gets old while you wait. We offer express delivery, so you do not lose time.
  2. 2Phrases with a legal meaning. Sentences like "no criminal record" or "no adverse information" must stay precise. The translator uses the correct German legal wording.
  3. 3Stamps in another script. Seals may be in Arabic, Cyrillic or Hindi even when the text is not. We translate every part.
  4. 4Wrong file uploaded. Some people upload a payment receipt or an application form by mistake. We check your upload and tell you if something is missing.

When do you need your police certificate in German?

What language is your police certificate in?

We translate directly into German from Turkish, Arabic, Kurdish (Kurmanji and Sorani), Dari, Pashto, Persian (Farsi), Ukrainian, Russian and English. Indian PCCs are mostly in English, with Hindi stamps or regional-language text on state police certificates.

Frequently asked questions about police clearance certificate translation

Is the translation valid in all German states?

Yes. A sworn translation is valid throughout Germany. The office makes the final decision. We cannot guarantee a decision.

Do I need to translate my Turkish Adli Sicil Kaydı?

Usually yes, if a German office asks for it. We translate the full e-Devlet document, including the barcode note and the apostille if you have one.

Can you translate a Russian or Ukrainian certificate of no criminal record?

Yes. We translate Справка о несудимости and Довідка про несудимість directly into German, together with the apostille.

Who can translate a police clearance certificate into German?

A translator sworn by a German court. Our partner translators are sworn by German courts. You can check them at justiz-dolmetscher.de.

Is a Führungszeugnis from my home country the same as a police clearance certificate?

German offices use this term, or Strafregisterauszug, for a criminal record certificate from your home country. For India, this is usually your PCC. Your office decides which document it needs.

Does my German Führungszeugnis need translation?

No. The German Führungszeugnis is issued in German by the Federal Office of Justice, so no translation is needed.

Do you help me apply for a certificate?

No. We only translate. You apply through the authorities of your country or its mission.
