Your Telugu translator

Your translation is made by a translator sworn by a German court, usually a Landgericht (regional court) or Oberlandesgericht (higher regional court). "Beeidigt" means sworn in, "ermächtigt" means authorised. The translator reads Telugu script, transliterates names into Latin letters and confirms with stamp and signature that the German text is complete and correct. A translator in India cannot certify a translation for German authorities.

My family name comes first on my certificate. How will the translation show it?

Traditionally, Telugu names put the family (house) name first. This house name is called inti peru. In "కొమ్మినేని శ్రీనివాస్", Kommineni is the house name and Srinivas is the given name. Very often the house name is shortened to an initial, like "కె. శ్రీనివాస్" (K. Srinivas). In Telugu names, this initial usually stands for the house name. In many Tamil names, an initial stands for the father's name instead. Some names also end in a title or a community name, which adds one more part.

Your passport often shows the name the Western way: given name first, surname second. The spelling can differ too. Your certificate may say "Srinivas", while your passport says "SREENIVAS". A German officer then sees two orders and two spellings.

How a sworn translation handles this:

  1. 1The translator keeps the order of your document. Kommineni stays first if it is first on the certificate.
  2. 2The Telugu script is transliterated letter by letter. No name part is added, dropped or moved.
  3. 3An initial like "K." stays "K.". The translator does not expand it.
  4. 4Your passport spelling is added in a translator's note. So the office can match both forms.
On your document In your passport In our translation
కొమ్మినేని శ్రీనివాస్ Surname: KOMMINENI · Given name: SREENIVAS Kommineni Srinivas (translator's note: passport spelling SREENIVAS KOMMINENI)
కె. శ్రీనివాస్ Surname: KOMMINENI · Given name: SREENIVAS K. Srinivas (translator's note: passport spelling SREENIVAS KOMMINENI; the initial "K." is not expanded)
లక్ష్మి (mother's name) Mother's name on the last page: LAXMI Lakshmi (translator's note: passport spelling LAXMI)

Your Indian passport lists your father's, mother's and spouse's names on the last page. Please upload that page too, so the translator can note those spellings. If your documents show very different forms, your office may ask for a name affidavit. That is the office's decision.

Telugu certificates from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

Each type of Telugu document has its own layout. These are common sources:

  • Birth certificates from municipal corporations, municipalities and gram panchayats. Newer ones come from the national Civil Registration System (CRS) and often mix English print with Telugu entries. See birth certificate from Andhra Pradesh or Telangana.
  • SSC certificates (Class 10) from the state boards of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Intermediate certificates (Class 12). They may show Telugu next to English. See SSC, Intermediate and degree certificates.
  • Marriage certificates from the Registrar of Marriages or a temple, sometimes with Telugu stamps. See marriage certificate.
  • Single status papers for a wedding in Germany, often an affidavit. See single status certificate.

The translator translates every word on the page, in Telugu and in English. Stamps, seals and handwritten notes are described in the translation too. You pay one price for the page.

Urdu is the second official language of Telangana. Some older documents from Hyderabad have Urdu parts. For documents that are fully in Urdu, see Urdu to German translation. If you also have papers from Tamil Nadu, see Tamil to German translation.

Why do people in Germany need a Telugu translation?

A Telugu translation is usually one part of a bigger process. These pages explain the process; this page only covers the language:

An Indian apostille is not valid in Germany. If your office needs to check an Indian document, it asks the German Embassy in India for a verification. You cannot start this yourself. Read our document verification guide.
